Kesu Das, a known artist of the district, has braced up to make Baleswar town cleaner, besides beatifying it with aid of his artist group. The group not only cleaned a patch of the town filled with filth but also made creative art out of the solid waste dumped on the roads.
Earlier, the group made creations out of stones thrown near the Fakir Mohan Circle on Tuesday. Das and his members exhibited a public art show near Rameswar temple on the road between Baleswar bus terminal and Remuna circle out of green coconut waste. The local residents have appreciated the efforts of the artists and their innovative ideas and creativity.
Kesu under his initiative to revive the indigenous art of lacquer works of the district has been organising ‘lacquer dolls marriage’ for the past several years involving people of various walks of life. Besides, he has been also organising art competitions among the tribals in order to revive their lost skills and popularise them.
“Heaps of green coconuts can be seen in any temple mainly in the Shiva temples. They are simply thrown after use without any care. Not only these coconut wastes give a shabby look but also pose health hazard as the items become the breeding ground for mosquitoes and spread many vector-borne diseases. Earlier, we made some creations out of mushrom based stones. Recently, we used waste green coconuts. Further, we have plans to exhibit more creations out of several other waste materials,” said Das.
