The Commissionerate Police on Monday recovered the body of a senior official of the Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) near the Sainik School in the VSS Nagar area under the Saheed Nagar police limits in the city. The deceased was identified as I Surya Prasad Rao of Vishakhapatnam posted as AGM (Finance) at the VSP.
After getting information from the locals, the Saheed Nagar police reached the spot along with a scientific team. The police took the body to the Capital Hospital for postmortem to ascertain the real cause of his death. However, the injury marks on Rao’s body point to a possible murder, police said. Police sources said that an air ticket was found from the deceased, which revealed address and purpose of his visit to Bhubaneswar. The police have started investigation into the matter after registering a U/D case.
Sources said the deceased had come to the city to meet one Koteswar Rao to discuss about the marriage of his younger son I Balgangadhar. According to Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, the deceased had arrived from Vizag on Sunday evening and checked into a hotel here. “We have found that he talked to his son back in Vizag at 10.42 pm last night. The incident obviously happened after that. As per our preliminary investigation, we suspect it to be a case of professional rivalry leading to murder,” Bhoi added.
The DCP also said the police have started investigating into the case from all angles. Meanwhile, Rao’s elder son I Umashankar, a software engineer based in Bangalore, reached here. “My father had come to Bhubaneswar to see a prospective bride for my younger brother I Balgangadhar,” said I Umashankar.
Notably, the police had recovered body of a driver of a construction company from a rest shelter near the airport on January 2 in the city.
