Gautam Buddha tried to fight evil by goodness and hatred by love. The world today needs to respect and follow his message of love, tolerance and universal peace, opined Governor Dr SC Jamir while attending the fifth Buddha Mahotsav at Maniabandha on the day of Buddha Purnima on Monday evening. He said Buddhism propagates a casteless society based on equal rights. To be happy in the present life one should practice the ethics of morality, non-violence, equality and universal brotherhood. This is an eternal truth taught by lord Buddha, said Jamir.
“How do we build a sustainable world without violenceIJ That is something we have to seriously think of. We should try to build a society based on the theme of peace and non-violence and strive to foster a culture of non-violence. The noble eight-fold path of Bhdha needs to be practiced,” Jamir stressed. The Governor highly praised the weaving art of Maniabandha and said that the handloom artisans’ village has got a worldwide reputation for exquisite handloom clothes and sarees in particular.
Maniabandha truly upholds the legacy and the richness of weaving art which is reflected on the exquisite handloom clothes. The vibrant coloured clothes made for lord Jagannath has given the place a unique identity, he said. Jamir inaugurated a building of the Buddhist Interpretation Centre and told that this must attract visitors to the place. Other dignitaries like Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, Culture Minister Ashok Panda, local MlA and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra attended the Buddha Mahotsav.
