Hundreds of villagers from Goda Grama Panchayat under Erasama block have petitioned to the district Collector, the SP, the Pollution Control Board authorities and other local officials on Thursday demanding immediate closure of a poultry farm operating on the

village outskirts.

The petition has described that one Kalu Charan Pradhan and his family members are running a poultry farm on the village outskirts creating air pollution and nuisance to the general public. The poultry farm owner has not obtained any valid licence from Government for running the farm, the villager’s complained.

Due to foul smell coming out of the poultry farm, the residents nearby are in great discomfort in the area. A local temple and a school are a victim of the foul smell as well, the petition revealed.

The poultry farm bears source of odor and attracts flies, rodents and other pests that usually create diseases which adversely affect the life of people living in the vicinity. Improper disposal of poultry excreta are contributing to water pollution and environmental degradation but the farm owner does not care for the public grievances. The petitioner sought immediate intervention against the farm owner.

Meanwhile, acting on the complaint, district Collector Yamini Sarangi has asked the Environment department to furnish a report after conducting a field study.
