Maoist infested Zamankira locals were celebrating the moment after news came that a boy qualified for IIT admission in Mechanical Engineering in Ropar of Punjab.

The villagers shored up financial support for Sumeet Sindhria, a poor schedule caste boy, to facilitate his admission. Sindhria secured 830 rank under the reserved category in this year’s IIT entrance test.

Sindhria’s father Nabrang Sindhiria and mother Jyoschna are working in the local block office as sweepers. But facing all odds and burning the midnight oil, Sindhria qualified for the IIT.

Arranging fund for admission was a difficult task for him as well as for the family. But, his villagers came forward to help him. “My requirement was Rs 40,000 for the admission. My parents were unable to arrange such a huge amount. But the people of my village came forward as a messiah and assured me to give the sum of money for admission,” said Sindhria, adding, “When I came to know about my rank, I got extremely happy. And for the people of my village, my dream is going to be materialised.”

“Sindhria came to me and told about his achievement in the IIT entrance test. He also told his difficulties. We convened a meeting of the villagers and decided to contribute money for his admission and everyone agreed for the noble cause,” said Sanjiv Sahu, an important person of the village.

“Instantly, we gave him Rs 5,500 and assured him to deposit the rest amount in the bank account. We also moved the district administration and the industrial houses, seeking financial assistance for Sindhria,” Sahu said. “MCl and many other industries agreed to provide fund for the admission,” he added.
