PNS

Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested Dhauli police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of the Commissionerate Police for taking bribe inside the police station to settle a case. The IIC Debi Prasad Dash was caught red-handed while taking bribe of Rs 10,000. He was nabbed during a trap laid by the Vigilance sleuths. According to reports, the IIC had allegedly demanded the money from one Rakesh Das of Dhauli to show him leniency in a criminal case. Rakesh had informed the Vigilance about the IIC’s demand. The sleuths laid a trap and successfully nabbed the police officer, said Vigilance DSP Debabrat Seth.

The Vigilance team also raided Dash’s residence at Pokhariput in the city and seized some documents along with hard cash. The team has also started examining the IIC’s bank account and locker to get information about his disproportionate assets, official sources said. Notably, three cops of the Commissionerate Police have been arrested within five months. While Rakesh Samantaray, a sub-inspector of Jatni police station was caught with Rs 10,000 bribe on January 7, on December 4 last year, vigilance personnel arrested Amin Khan, a sub-inspector of the Nandankanan police station on charges of accepting bribe of Rs 3,000.
