The vigilance police, after getting a series of allegations of illegal acquisition and possession of property disproportionate to income by Prasanta Kumar Kanungo, Assistant Engineer in Rengali block of Sambalpur district, conducted searches on his residential house at Cox Colony, Ward-10, Jharsuguda, paternal house at village Balisahi under Kakatpur PS in Puri district, his office chamber at Rengali and house of Indramani Parida, his father-in-law near Tehasil office, Kalimandir Road, Jharsuguda on Thursday.
Huge quantities of property were found from the possession of Kanungo and his family members. Movable assets like costly household articles, electronic and electrical gadgets, a Swift Desire (ZDI) car and a Hero Honda CD Deluxe motorcycle, totally worth `11.90 lakh, hard cash of `22.80 lakh and investment in different insurance companies to the tune of `10 lakh were detected.
Apart from all this, immovable assets like a double-storied building at Cox Colony, Jharsugua worth `29 lakh, a single-storied building at Kharakhai Temple near Samantrapur check-gate, Bhubaneswar, worth `12 lakh and four plots of land at Jharsuguda town worth `2.31 lakh were also detected.
The total value of the movable and immovable assets so far detected during was calculated at `88.01 lakh. The house search was continuing, a Vigilance Press release said.
