The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch (CB) on Wednesday arrested Odisha live Stock Resources Development Society (OlSRDS) senior assistant Janaki Ballav Sahu of Phulnakhara in Cuttack on charges of misappropriating Government fund.
According to CB DIG Rajesh Kumar, Sahu had tried to withdraw Rs 29 lakh from the OlSRDS account of Indian Bank at Manglabag branch in Cuttack on October 18 by forging the signature of OlSRDS chief executive engineer Dr Sanat Mishra on a cheque.
He had deposited the cheque at the Phulnakhara branch of SBI for transfer of the amount to his SBI account at PB branch, Manglabag, Cuttack. The case came to fore when Mishra lodged a complaint with the CB on Tuesday.
Earlier, Sahu had been arrested by Khandagiri police on October 18 last year on charges of cheating and embezzling `1.08 crore from OlSRDS account of the Union bank of India, Madhupatna branch in Cuttack and Axis Bank, Satyanagar branch here.
“The case was later transferred to the CB and in due course of investigation we recovered `38.03 lakh that had been transferred to the account of Sahu’s wife and also seized three four-wheelers from his possession,” Rajesh Kumar said.
