The 52nd Navy Day was celebrated by the Veterans Club Odisha (VCO) on Monday. A large number of veterans of the three services (Army, Navy and Air Force) and their families participated in the event. At the opening of the programme, a patriotic ambiance was created by recital of ‘Jay Bharati’.
Guest of honour Gyana Hota, renowned Odia comic poet, paid his tribute to the martyrs who laid their lives in the line of duty and recited some poems in his unique style that was highly appreciated by the gathering.
VCO president Bidyadhar Nayak emphasised the need of one more indigenously-built aircraft carrier like INS Vikrant in the Indian Navy to counter China's aggressive policy in the current global scenario.
There is also a need to increase the production capacity at an accelerated pace in India by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation, he said.
He also said that in order to motivate the serving soldiers, every State Government should create ample opportunities for the ex-Servicemen to live with dignity.
