Veteran nonagenarian theatre artist and film personality Manimala Devi passed away on Thursday at 2.45 pm at a private hospital here. Her son Shankar Ghosh confirmed her death to the media.
Going by false information, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had tweeted a condolence message for Manimala’s death on Wednesday. later, the CM deleted the tweet.
Manimala had been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition suffering from severe chest congestion and old age-related complications.
The 90-year-old actress had acted in about 40 feature films and over 100 plays, out of which 14 films have bagged the national award, including her debut film Sri loknath. She was awarded the prestigious Jayadev Purashkar, the State’s highest cine award in 2000.
Several people from the Odia film industry and well-wishers rushed to the hospital to pay their last respects.
