Venue row stalls Ravenshaw function

PNS

In an unsavoury incident, a function of the Ravenshaw University Students’ Union scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled at the last moment due to a flimsy controversy over venue selection. While some students wanted to hold the function in the grass lawn of the campus, the university authorities did not grant permission for it saying several other venues were available for such a function. Three Ministers, including the Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahy and half-a-dozen ruling BJD MlAs, including local Cuttack-Choudwar MlA Pravat Biswal, were scheduled to attend the function.

“Since the university authorities did not cooperate with us to hold the function, we were forced to reschedule it,” informed Students’ Union president Ramya Ranjan Behera, a leader of BJD students’ wing.

The annual function of the union on Wednesday is on schedule, informed general secretary Sankalp Patnaik of ABVP. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is scheduled to attend the function.
