Vedanta to host tribals' mass marriage on Monday

PNS

The Vedanta Foundation is all set to organise a mass marriage function at Kumudabali, Muniguda on Monday. As many as 150 tribal couples are scheduled to tie the knot in the event.

Apart from promoting simplicity in marriage ceremonies and discouraging dowry, the mass marriage also aims at empowering the couples legally to use their rights as couples. Many couples in this region stay together without conducting the marriage rituals due to scarcity of funds, thus without a marriage certificate. Consequently, they get deprived of benefits under various Government schemes and their children face social exclusion.

All procedures of issuing marriage certificates will be carried out simultaneously by Government authorities during the ceremony, to be held at the Muniguda Shiva temple.

Vedanta will gift silver ornaments like kada, toe ring and finger ring, vessel sets for kitchen needs, umbrellas, cycles, wedding dresses, solar lanterns and wrist watches to the couples. The couples will also be gifted fixed deposit worth of `5,000. Buses have been arranged to ferry the family members to the venue. The company has also planned to provide lunch for around 4,000 people in the event.
