The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has issued notices to the Vedanta and the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) over non-utilisation of fly-ash being generated by their thermal power plants in the State.
The OSPCB has asked the two firms to reply to the notice within 10 days for failing to achieve 100 per cent utilisation of fly-ash during the last year as well as in 2015, said an official.
“The status of utilisation of fly-ash during 2014-15 and from April to August 2015 indicates that you have failed to achieve 100 per cent flyash utilization,” stated a letter sent to the two companies separately.
The board has asked the companies to explain why ‘consent to operate’ granted should not be revoked and appropriate action should not be initiated for violating conditions.
According to the official, the Vedanta ltd is operating a 2,400-MW power plant, a 1,215-MW captive power plant and an aluminium smelter plant with a capacity of 7.75 lakh metric tonne per annum in Jharsuguda district.
The Ib Thermal Power Station of the OPGC is operating two plants of 210 MW each at Banharpali in Jharsuguda district.
