An under-trial prisoner (UTP) died following a fits attack at the Nilgiri Sub-Jail in Baleswar district on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, Pagulu Khandei (25), son of Hadibandhu of Nuasahi village under the Nilgiri police station, had been arrested by Excise officials on July 8 on the charge of illegal liquor trade. He was sent to the Nilgiri jail after his bail plea was rejected.
He suffered from fits on Wednesday, following which he was rushed a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
However, it was alleged that the prisoner died due to neglect of treatment in the jail. Police said the cause behind the death would be ascertained after receipt of the postmortem report.
