An undertrial prisoner (UTP) lodged at the Balangir jail died on Wednesday night allegedly due to negligence in treatment.
The deceased was identified as Satya Mallick of Dhumamara village in Balangir district.
According to reports, Mallick’s condition deteriorated in the night at around 12 am. He was admitted to the Balangir District Headquarters Hospital, where he succumbed to his ailment while undergoing treatment.
However, his family members have alleged that he died due to negligence in treatment.
Refuting the allegations of Mallick’s family members, the jail authorities said he died following a cardiac arrest.
