PNS

The Utkal University would reopen and academic activities would resume from Monday as the university authorities have decided to lift the sine die. This was decided after a university delegation met the Commissioner of Police YB Khurania on Sunday.

Sources said the Police Commissioner assured the delegation consisting of the university Vice-Chancellor, PG Council Chairman and Heads of Departments that adequate police force would be provided for deployment in the university campus to ensure security.

later, PG Council Chairman Brahmanada Satpathy said classes would be held after lifting the sine die. The students can enter the campus through the main gate with their identity cards after 9 am on Monday and the security forces would check the identity cards before letting them in.

It might be mentioned that sine die had been declared in the university after a number of violent incidents like hurling of bombs and clashes

between rival groups and ransacking furniture and other equipments in the campus forced the authorities to cancel the Students’ Union elections.

Due to the cancellation of the polls, palpable tension still prevails among the students.

Mainly outsiders, particularly those illegally occupying the hostel rooms, have been blamed for the violence in the campus of the prestigious institution.
