Utkal teachers warn of intensifying stir

PNS

About a hundred of the Utkal University teachers congregated in front of the administrative building on Tuesday continuing their agitation which they have begun since July 10.

Their demands include immediate implementation of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), immediate repair of residential quarters, confirmation of faculty members, advance increment for MPhil/PhD holders, re-designation of Readers, recruitment of Non-Teaching staff, NPS arrears and insurance schemes, etc.

Addressing a gathering, secretary of the teachers’ union (UUTA) Prof KB Panda said that on most of these issues, there have already been approvals or directives from the UGC and the State Government.

However, the university authorities are ignoring the genuine needs of the faculty members.

He lamented that still the administration has not found it necessary to start a dialogue with them.

He warned that  in coming days, the agitation will be intensified and if needed, an indefinite hunger strike would be held.
