One of the masterminds of the lottery scam of Rs 2 crore, Shyamsundar Kabiraj, was arrested and forwarded to the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court by the Umarkote police on Tuesday.
According to the police, Kabiraj was a local reporter who cheated several people of Umarkote and Raighar blocks by duping them with promises of lottery money. He amassed around Rs 10 lakh in the name of the police and other officials.
The scam was first reported on March 15 when some people came with the illegal lottery tickets. The matter was then brought to the notice of Nabarangpur district Superintendent of Police Brajesh Kumar Rai. The police had arrested two other accused on Sunday.
