UCO Bank loot: Two accused brought on transit remand

PNS

The Twin City Commissionerate police on Thursday brought the two arrested persons accused in the UCO Bank heist in Bhubaneswar from Bihar to Odisha on transit remand for interrogation.

The Vaishali CJM court in Bihar had allowed the Commissionerate police to take them on a seven-day transit remand.

The accused duo, identified as Bhagwat Thakur, a truck driver, and Vijay Shah, were being grilled at an undisclosed location here, a police official said.

They had gone absconding from Khordha by a truck after the robbery, the official added.

Notably, the accused had been arrested in Bihar on Tuesday. While one of them was arrested from Patna, another was nabbed from Begusarai in Bihar.

The Commissionerate police had formed a special squad to arrest the looters. Police had also prepared sketches of five dacoits on the basis of descriptions given by the bank staffs and customers who were present during the heist.

It may be recalled that five armed miscreants had looted over Rs 13 lakh and gold ornaments weighing around a kg from the UCO Bank’s Bapujinagar branch on September 28.
