PNS

One Ajay Kumar Mohanty from Otala under Tirtol block lodged an FIR with the police, stating `1,77,800 had been allegedly withdrawn from his UCO Bank account.

The victim reported that on Saturday morning, he had visited UCO bank Tirtol branch for verifying his account and found that `1, 77, 800 had been withdrawn in favour of a woman by way of cheque.

Mohanty said the woman was unknown to him and he had never issued any cheque in her favour. Soon, he took the matter with the branch manager. The latter asked Mohanty to produce his cheque book issued by the bank earlier. Interestingly, on examination, it was found that a cheque leaf bearing number 32200 had been missing from the cheque book.

However, a surprised Mohanty still pleaded that he was unaware of issuing a cheque to any woman and alleged that he had been made a victim of fraud as the cheque was issued and money withdrawn without his knowledge. He sought a probe into the entire transaction.

Meanwhile, taking the complaint seriously, police have started an investigation and asked the bank to furnish information in details on the transaction, informed Tirtol police station IIC Anirudha Nayak.
