The Utkal Bharat on Thursday said the BJD is trying to take political mileage by alleging that the BJP-led Chhattisgarh Government has deprived Odisha of its right over Mahanadi water by constructing barrages upstream the river.
“Neither the ruling party nor the opposition parties have any specific information as to why water flow is declining in the Mahanadi. They don’t know whether the situation has arisen due to climate change or construction of barrages in Chhattisgarh Govt. On this situation, the State Government and CM Naveen Patnaik’s promise to fight to protect Mahanadi for Odisha’s interest till the last breath only shows political motivation,” alleged party president Kharavel Swain. He said the Union Water Resources Minister’s proposal for formation of a Tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute issue is appreciable and the Odisha Government can approach the Supreme Court for a solution.
“Chhattisgarh is not Pakistan against which we have to fight till the last breath,” he opined.
