In two separate cases, the police have arrested two persons for allegedly torturing their wives demanding dowry. Both the accused have been forwarded to court.
The police said that one Pinky Das (30), a native under Bargaon police limit of Sundargarh district, had married to one Pradipta Mohanty (35) of Deogarh one year ago. After marriage, Pradipta had allegedly started torturing Pinky demanding more dowry.
When the torture became unbearable for her, Pinky lodged an FIR with Bargaon police on Saturday. Acting on her complaint, police registered a dowry torture case and arrested Pradipta Mohanty. He was forwarded to court on Sunday.
In another incident, one Ashok Sethi (40), a native of Sagra in Sambalpur district, was arrested and forwarded to court by Bargaon police on Sunday for allegedly torturing his wife Usharani Devi, a resident under Bargaon police limit, for more dowry.
“In two separate cases, we have arrested Pradipta Mohanty and Ashok Sethi. Both the accused have been forwarded to court.” said Bargaon police station IIC lalita Modi.
