In what indicates of poor healthcare facility, at least two persons died in just two days due to unavailability of filled oxygen cylinders at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here, and this has brewed strong resentments among people. If sources are to be believed, one Sk Abdul Muktadar (57), a resident of Jaipura, had been admitted in the DHH with breathing problem late on Wednesday night. When he required oxygen support, no filled oxygen was available then. As a result, treatment delayed and he died.
Similarly, the day before, one Sayed Nurul Hassan (64), a resident of Fakirabad, had been admitted with the same disease and died due to unavailabily of a oxygen cylinder.
On Thursday, a palpable tension prevailed in the DHH premises as family members of the deceased created uproars alleging negligence against doctors and hospital authorities.
The Kendrapara Town police rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the situation. The family members lodged FIR against the concerned doctora and paramedical staffs. The police have started a probe into the alleged matter.
The unfortunate incident has exposed the tall claims of the Government as the DHH belong to Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak’s home district.
Kendrapada CDMO Binay Prusty said he has directed the ADMO Dr Harihar Panda to conduct an inquiry and submit the report at the ealiest.
When contacted ADMO Panda said Hassan’s death was normal as he had come in a critical condition and was gasping. The doctor didn’t neglect in providing timely treatment. But in Muktadar’s case, an oxygen cylinder brought from a nearby ward burst when a paramedical staff was opening it. The patient died due to heart attack, he said.
The allegation of patients died due to lack of oxygen is not a fact, said Panda.
