Police suspect extortion behind contractor killing
The Marshaghai police on Sunday detained two persons in connection with the Saturday firing incident in which a 32-year-old youth was killed.
According to IIC Sukanta Kumar Patra, one Babu Sethy of Salepur village sustained severe gunshot injuries as three motorbike-borne fired three rounds of bullet at him near the Banamali chhak on the Salepur-Marshaghai road on Saturday night.
But he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the District Headquarters Hospital. Babu, a contractor, was a close associate of Babu Sahu, a hardcore criminal who has been operating his crime syndicate in and outside the district. He was also involved in several crimes in the past, police said.
The IIC said the two detainees belong to litu alias Debi Prasad Das gang. It is suspected that Babu might have been killed by litu gang members over an extortion issue.
Earlier on May 10, three miscreants belonging to litu gang had also attempted to kill Bahu but failed. Babu’s friend Bhaskar Jena was injured in the attack, according to police.
