Two closed mines may be reopened soon

PNS

The Inter-Departmental Committee on Mines has recommended to the State Government to allow opening of two mines, which are closed due to some reason or other. Earlier, the Government had submitted a proposal in this regard.

Sources said 126 mines have remained closed in the State for various reasons, which include legal barriers, mining irregularities and the Shah Commission inquiry.

The committee headed bythe Development Commissioner suggested the State Government to reopen two mines under the provisions of the new MMDR Act.

The Government would sign supplementary lease deeds with the leaseholders, sources said.

The committee has recommended extension of lease period till March 31, 2020 for non-captive mines. But the final decision would be taken by the State Government.
