Forest Department personnel on Saturday located a tusker with a swelling leg in the Bauda-Banakhandi jungle under the Athagarh Forest Division and requested the Wildlife PCCF and the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT_ to provide treatment to it at the earliest.
The pachyderm’s leg swelled as it has been entangled in a scooter tyre for over a week. The elephant has also been away from its herd of other animals due to its inability to walk.
Villagers had informed forest officials about this. Accordingly, forest personnel swung into action and located it. “We have kept the movement of the tusker under watch and requested the PCCF and the OUAT to provide treatment to the jumbo at the earliest,” said DFO Arun Kumar Swain.
