A tusker was found dead in a farmland near Guni river in Rameshwar Chhak under the Tangi forest range in the district on Friday.
The locals spotted the carcass lying in a farmland and informed the forest officials. Forest officials reached the spot and seized the jumbo carcass for autopsy and are trying to ascertain the cause of death.
Notably, elephant herds have continued to wreak havoc in Pokharia, Rameshwar, Bhushandapur, Ratamati, Kamaguru and Mangalajodi areas under Tangi forest range since few days causing extensive damage to houses and crop.
The locals had also held dharna in front of the forest office.
