Ash dumping in private plots has turned to be a major threat to public life in Jharsugada. In one such incident, the Talapatia Outpost police have arrested one employee of a Mumbai-based company along with seven drivers.
The arrested official was identified as Bijay Kumar Khare. Seven Hywa tippers engaged in such activity were also seized, besides a case booked against the offenders under various sections of IPC and provisions of the Environmental Safety Act.
Sources said Ashtech Company was engaged in dumping of fly ash of a power plant. The company was given substantial profit over dumping of fly ash in the locality. Fly ash is dumped in the agricultural land in night hours without knowledge of the land owners. Besides, they are also deposited in mountain shape on public roads, rivers, ponds and forest land, creating an alarming situation for the general public.
