The 25-km stretch of the National Highway from Soro to Rupsa has been jammed by hundreds of forcibly-detained trucks for the last five days causing much inconvenience to passenger vehicles and loss to concerned traders.

The trucks have been forcefully detained by the local transport association which is currently supporting the all India strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

local transport association BTCC has allegedly forcibly detained the trucks plying via Baleswar.

The district administration appears to be a mute spectator of forcible detention of trucks which are loaded with perishable goods, vegetables and other essential commodities. It is even seen that the container movement, which is not part of AIMTC, in and out of the local Concor depot has also been paralysed by the local association.

The truckers belonging to the All India Transport Welfare Association (AITWA) and the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT) are not participating in the strike, their trucks have been forcibly detained by the AIMTC across the country, alleged the two association. They said the strike for scrapping of toll collection system from NHs is not rational.

"There are reports of looting of few trucks and human rights violations. Choking of part of the NH is not acceptable as per law and humanity point of view,” alleged local AITWA and IFTRT members.

The detention of trucks would have impart on the local trade and industrial activities, they alleged.

"The district administration should take immediate actions against those who have detained the trucks that are not part of the strike. It should ensure that innocent truck drivers and helpers detained on the road for last 4 days get proper food and basic needs,” they said.
