The police on Monday busted a truck theft racket and detained six truck lifters, besides recovering two stolen vehicles from their possession in the Badachana area in Jajpur district.
According to the police, the detained persons were looting trucks on National Highways and other roads by brandishing revolvers at the drivers. They also were involved in truck theft cases in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Paradip, Keonjhar and other parts of the State.
After stealing trucks, they easily changed the number plates and colours of the vehicles at various garages, the police said.
“We are interrogating them. We suspect involvement of many garage owners and State Transport Corporation and Regional Transport officials in the truck theft cases,” said Jajpur Road SDPO Bipin Bihari Mallick.
