A member of the Paradip Truck Owners’ Association on Monday sustained severe bullet injuries and was admitted at the SCB Medical College Hospital; Cuttack in a critical condition. Two bike-borne miscreants opened six rounds of fire at him at the Tikarapanga Chowk on the Paradip-Daitary Expressway.

The incident occurred when the victim, Sarada Prasanna Das alias Babuli, a native of Tikhiri village under the Marshaghai police station, was talking with some truck owners at Tikarapanga, said Kendrapada Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nrushingha Charan Swain.

“Babuli along with a friend was on his way to Paradip by a car. He stopped at Tikarpannga to have talks with some truck owners. All of a sudden, the two miscreants, who came by a bike, started firing at his Tata Safari vehicle. Babuli was inside the vehicle. He sustained injuries as two rounds of bullets pierced into his body. His vehicle was damaged as four rounds of fire hit it. The miscreants then fled from the spot towards Paradip,” added SDPO Swain.

The reason behind the firing was yet to be ascertained, said police sources.
