Two unidentified armed miscreants on Saturday shot at a trader and decamped with Rs 2.3 lakh as the latter was going to deposit the money in a bank. The trader was critically injured and shifted to a private hospital.

Harish Prasad Rath (40) is a resident of Saheed Nagar and a distributor for Hindustan Unilever ltd. He works in Sachidananda Traders, near Kali temple at Unit-6.

When he started his Innova car to go to the bank, two motorcycle-borne men intercepted him at 10.45 am in front of his office and fired at him. At first, they shot at Rath’s right hand to get the money bag. However, Rath was also hit in the chest. The duo managed to flee with the money bag before passers-by gathered.

According to the security guard of the office, the black motorbike had no number plate.

The Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot. “We have recorded the statement of witnesses. Till now, three names have come up,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh.
