Trade unions vow to make Dec 5 protest a success

PNS

Seven Central trade unions’ State units, irrespective of their political affiliations, on Sunday called upon workers from all sectors to organise a ‘State-level protest day’ on December 5 by holding demonstrations against the Union Government’s move to amend labour laws and FDI in Defence, railways and insurance, among others.

Addressing a State-level convention here to chalk out modalities for the protest, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) State general secretary Souribandhu Kar said the Union and State Governments are promoting anti-labour polices that would “paralyse the workers”.

He also demanded to know from the Government as to how much foreign direct investment (FDI) has come into the country after Independence. He said trade unions do not want to have confrontation with the new Govt at the Centre but are being forced by the speed with which labour law changes are being carried out. Members of BMS, INTUC, HMS, CITU and other trade unions attended the convention and shared their views.
