Eminent trade union leader Santosh Kumar Pattnaik sent 10 volunteers to conduct rescue operation at Kendrapada boat mishap site and distributed dry foods and fruits among injured victims admitted to the Kujang hospital.
Pattnaik thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for announcing Government assistance and police and district administration for timely support.
Notably, 10 persons died and many were injured, all belonged to Hasina village under Kujang block, as a boat capsized in the Mahanadi river at Nipania village in Kendrapada district on Wednesday evening.
BJP leader Sampad Swain and Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel with their supporters separately blocked the Cuttack-Paradip road near Hasina village, demanding arrest of the boat owner and the boatman.
