Senior police officers of the State here on Wednesday had brainstorming deliberations on professional police subjects like law and order, leftwing extremism, crime scenario, improving response and service delivery at police stations, community policing and improving conviction rate.

Inaugurating a two-day 58th Senior Police Officers’ Conference, DGP Sanjeev Marik stressed on basics of policing like collection of grassroots intelligence, man management, police leadership, police behaviour, continuous interactions with senior officers, grievance redressal of common people, discipline and police training.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is also Home Minister, is scheduled to attend the valedictory session of the conference on Thursday. About a hundred senior police officers including district SPs, armed battalion commandants, range IGs and DIGs, IPS officers under training, senior officers of various police establishments and all the IPS officers of the State headquarters are attending the conference.

DGP Marik told reporters that the main theme of deliberation this year is to ensure proper service to weaker sections of the society with special emphasis on women and children. The senior police officers discussed as to what steps are to be taken to see efficient service delivery system is available to common people.

Admitting that law and order situation arises due to lack of prompt police action, Marik said the conference also discussed to ensure that officers at the thana level are properly sensitised and made responsive towards weaker section of the society and more particularly towards women and children.

The DGP in his inaugural address praised young Superintendents of Police for their valiant effort in combating leftwing extremism and other criminal activities in their respective districts. He also asked them to strive sincerely and continuously so that there is no revival of Maoism in the cleared areas and the menace doesn’t spread to fresh areas.

Marik also stressed about the behaviour of officers at the police stations, saying one should not fear to come to police stations. “People visiting the police stations must be treated courteously with dignity,” he said.
