Cyclone Titli has rendered three siblings of Suhaba village of Koinpur Gram Panchayat of Rayagada block in Gajapati orphan after their father died.
Deceased Shekara Sabara (50), father of the three children, on October 11 had gone to his farm land for working without knowing about Titli and did not return home ever since. Due to no prior warning given by the block officials, Sabara lost his life.
The villagers found a bad smell coming from a pit located near Sabara’s farm land and immediately informed the district administration. The police and officials recovered the decomposed body after twelve days.
Sabara’s children were identified as elder son Sudama (17), younger son Ganapati (14) and daughter Mili (12).
Five years back, the trio children had lost their mother and their father was taking care of them. Due to acute poverty, elder Sudama was working as a daily labourer in towns.
The villagers informed the company where Sudama is working about the death of his father but the company neither informed it to Sudama nor granted him leave from his work place.
The villagers requested the district administration to come to the rescue of the orphaned children and provide them succor including education, food and shelter. Ganapati is studying in 7th class and Mili is in 5th class. Besides, they have requested the officials to facilitate Sudama’s home coming. Meanwhile, as immediate relief, the administration has handed over two children of deceased Sabara to the Child Welfare Committee, Gajapati.
