The police here on Tuesday arrested one SK Hubib Ulla of Krishnanandapur village under Tirtol area in connection with a firing incident in Basanta Chhak four days ago.
Besides, Krishnanandapur outpost OIC Anirudha Rout was suspended over his laxity in handling the firing case, informed SDPO Tirtol police station Siba Charan Rout.
Reports said that accused Hubib Ulla had past enmity with one Mubarak Ali of same village. On last Friday evening Mubarak was at Basanta Chhak when all of a sudden, Hubib Ulla opened fire at him. However, the bullet lost target and hit one Abbu Sophian, a local medicine shop owner, who got injured and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
Police had swung into action following complaint lodged by Mubarak Ali against three persons including Hubib Ulla. Soon after the incident, panic gripped Krishnanandpur village. Security arrangement was tightened as the area is dominated by minority community members.
There were allegations that police dillydallied in arresting Hubib Ulla as he is son of former Tirtol block BJD working president Sk Kallim Ulla.
However, under mounting pressure from several quarters, at last the police rounded up Hubib Ulla on Tuesday and forwarded him to court.
