Tight security in place for Amit Shah's city rally

To prevent any untoward incident during the two-day visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to the State and particularly at his rally site in Bhubaneswar at a ground near the Capital Hospital in Unit-VI on Tuesday, security has been beefed up here and also at Puri, where Shah will have a darshan of lord Jagannath on Wednesday.

Intelligence inputs about some fringe elements planning to oppose Shah’s Bhubaneswar rally has added to the burden on security personnel.

The saffron party’s national president, who enjoys Z-plus security cover, will be escorted by CRPF personnel from the Biju Patnaik International Airport to the rally venue. Besides, Black Cat commandos will be giving a cover to Shah in view of the threat perception on him. Shah has been under threat from terrorists.

A three-tier security arrangement has been put in place for Shah’s visit to the city. While CRPF personnel will escort him, Commissionerate Police will be piloting him to the venue.

‘’The venue will be fortified with CRPF and State police personnel and Black Cat commandos. In addition, 25 platoons of police force will be deployed at the venue,’’ said city Commissioner of Police RP Sharma.

To ensure an incident-free rally, the Commissionerate Police has entrusted DCP Satyabrata Bhoi to lead a team of two Additional DCPs and 100 police officers.

Metal detectors will be placed at the entry point of the rally venue and plain-cloth police personnel will be keeping an eye on troublemakers.

Similarly, adequate security arrangements have been made at Puri, where Shah will make a night halt on Tuesday and will pay obeisance to lord Jagannath next day.

As the State unit of the BJP is expecting a huge turnout at the venue during the BJP president’s maiden visit to the city, the traffic police have been asked to make necessary arrangements to avoid traffic chaos.

The buoyant State BJP unit is also leaving no stone unturned to make sure everything is in place.
