During a field enquiry on Thursday, a BDA-BMC joint team found three constructions obstructing the flow in the second drain from Krishna Tower to Behera Sahi and often causing waterlogging in front of the Iskcon temple.
On Wednesday, the team had removed some encroachments and dug the siphon and removed debris from the second drain, which was with debris and soil put by residents and developers of multistoried structures.
It can be mentioned here that the waterlogging along the NH service road in front of the Iskcon temple is happening as the siphon was unable to discharge the water through its two side branches. While one passes through Bhoi Sahi, the other through Behera Sahi.
In case of heavy rains, while the water level on the service road is increasing with the additional water coming from the flyover, the non-clearance of drain water beyond the siphon on the Behera Sahi-end was adding to the problem in front of the temple.
BDA Additional Commissioner Bhabani Shankar Chayani and BMC’s Pradip Duria led the field inspection on the day.
“The Drainage Division of the BMC will prepare a plan to remove the obstructions along the second drain,’’ said Chayani.
During heavy downpours, lack of underpass stops the flow of rainwater from the upper gradient (Nayapalli side) to the lower gradient (Behera Sahi), which results in accumulation of rainwater on the NH service road along the Iskcon temple.
The siphon near the Iskcon temple is the only siphon between CRP Square and Jaydev Vihar Square. Moreover, the wall like structure on the middle of the NH has created a great divide causing more headaches for the natural flow of water.
