The Khaira police in Baleswar district on Tuesday arrested three persons, including the Khaira block Vice-Chairman, on the charge of threatening Kahira Tehsildar Dr lipika Das for life. They are block VC Jayant Rout and Rabindra Rout and Abani Rout, residents of Khaira. They were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Tehsildar Dr Das, said Khaira PS IIC Prabhukalyan Acharay.
On last Tuesday, the Tehsildar along with some police and forest staffs had intercepted two stone-laden trucks on the Dhabagadi-Ranital road and asked the drivers to show consignment transshipment papers. As the drivers couldn’t show the papers, she asked them to come to the police station with vehicles.
Block VC Jayant Rout soon made arguments with her about her action. About 100 people joined him too. They besides using abusing languages threatened her of dire consequences. As a result, the two drivers sped away with their vehicles without paying any penalty. Besides lodging an FIR, Dr Das informed the Baleswar district Collector about the incident. On the next day, Khaira tehsil staffs staged a pen down agitation seeking action against the culprits. The trucks were to give about Rs25,000 each as penalty.
