Tension ran high at Umarkote following suicide of a Home Guard at the Treasury adjacent to the Sub Judge Court.The deceased was identified as Paduram Bhatra of Badakumari. He was on night duty of the Treasury with a few other police staff. On Thursday morning he found dead.
As the news spread, irate villagers laid siege to the treasury and the court, demanding a high-level probe into the incident, proper compensation to the kin of the deceased and job to his brother. later, they went on a rampage and vandalized the Treasury and court buildings and their furniture and computers.
When police reached the spot, a clash took place between the agitators and the police, which left a few villagers and police personnel including IIC SK Upadhaya, ASI Bulu Patnaik injured. A preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased Home Guard committed suicide due to his failure in love affair with a girl.
