A teenage girl was killed by an unidentified person after allegedly raping her at Haladiapadar under the Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district in the wee hours of Thursday.
Police recovered the body of the 16-year-old girl from near her house in the village, about 18 km from here and sent it for post-mortem, said Brahmapur Sadar SDPO Harihara Pani.
Forensic teams and sniffer dogs have been pressed in the investigation, but no arrests have been made so far. “We have got several clues about the accused and he will be nabbed very soon. It seems the accused was from the same locality,” said the SDPO.
The police said the victim and one of her cousin sisters were sleeping at their aunt’s house due to lack of electricity at her home in the village. The family members found her body lying near the house. The father of the deceased, a daily labourer, has lodged an FIR.
