Four teachers’ associations, All Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (Bhubaneswar), All Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (Cuttack-1), State SC/ST Teachers’ Association and Zila Parisad Teachers’ Association, under the banner of the Nikhil Utkal Primary Teachers’ Federation on Sunday jointly opposed the fresh amendment in the Elementary Cadre Rule, stating that the teachers having CT qualification would not get promotion any more. More than 1 lakh teachers are working under these four associations in the State.

“Firstly, the State Government on August 12, 1997 had made Elementary Cadre Rule to make the promotion process of primary school teachers easy. later in 2009, the Government made some amendments in the Rule after holding consultations with various teachers’ organisation.  But the Government did not hold meeting with the teachers’ organisations before bringing the fresh amendment in cadre rule. With the fresh amendment, CT teachers would get only one promotion in their life,” All Odisha Utkal Primary Teachers’ Federation general secretary Sk Abdul Khalik told mediapersons here. “We strongly condemn the arbitrary move of the Government and demand immediate withdrawal of the amendment, failing which we will resort to Statewide agitation from August 16,” warned All Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (Cuttack-1) secretary general Amiya Kumar Das.
