The BJP on Saturday said the State Government changed the scheme Teacher-on-Call’s name to ‘Guest Teacher’ after being baffled by criticism from different sections and reiterated that the school education system would not be developed by mere change of name of the programme.
“The Teacher-on-Call programme is disrespect to teachers as they will be hired as Uber and Ola drivers and driven away on completion of job. As many as 1,07,752 teachers are working on contact basis in primary schools and 13,977 teacher posts are lying vacant in high schools. While thousands of BEd and TC passed out candidates are awaiting jobs, the State Government should appoint them and regularise contractual teachers,” demanded BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma at a Press conference here.
He said a mere change of name would not help develop the school education system and the State Government is only hoodwinking people by changing the Teacher-on-Call name to ‘Guest Teachers’.
Among others, party’s another spokersperson Sudipta Ray, State Secretary Dr Jatin Mohanty and Dillip Mallick were present.
