A Special POCSO Court in Baleswar district sentenced a teacher to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl student.
Hearing a POCSO case, Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar fined the convicted teacher Basant Das (59) with Rs 5,000, failing which he would serve additional two years in jail.
This apart, the court ordered the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 4 lakh of monetary assistance to the victim’s family.
Public Prosecutor Pranab Kumar Panda was conducting the case on behalf of the government.
According to reports, Basant Das, a resident of Rampur in Baleswar district, had raped the 11-year-old minor girl at his residence under the Simulia police limits in on November 13, 2019 by alluring her with chocolates.
