Jayprakash Mohanty, Manager, Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation (TDCC), Sundargarh district, was on Wednesday detained by the Vigilance police as the official was allegedly carrying unaccounted cash of Rs 19 lakh in a car.
According to reports, Mohanty was travelling by an SUV from Sundargarh town to Jharsuguda, from where he was scheduled to move on to his Bhubaneswar residence. Acting on a tipoff, a Vigilance team led by DSP Sudhansu Pujari chased and intercepted the vehicle at the Masnikani toll plaza. On searching the car, the Vigilance officers found Rs 19 lakh in vehicle. Mohanty was unable to provide a satisfactory answer regarding source of money, reports said. Till last reports came in, Mohanty was being questioned at Vigilance office and his Government quarter at Sundargarh and residential house at Dhauli in Bhubaneswar were being searched.
