PNS

In fear of a proposed no- confidence motion against him, general secretary of Tata Sponge Shramik Sangha Rameshra Behera ran away with the resolution book from the annual general body meeting of the union held on April 1.

Sources revealed that as per the by- laws of the union, Behera had called a meeting of the workers to discuss about their different problems and validate the term of the union for the next year.

The union’s long standing  demands include employment  to kin of employees those who have completed 32 years of service, regularization of job of the employees who have worked under contractor for a long period, no extension of job after retirement and employment to the locals, etc.

Previously, there was an allegation of misappropriation of fund of the union against the general secretary in collusion with some corrupt company officials for which DLC, Rourkela had written a letter to the management to recover the money from the secretary.

Heated argument took place between the two sides when the workers demanded the fulfillment of their genuine demands but as the secretary failed to give a satisfactory reply and asked for further time.

Consequently, the situation became tense and agitated workers demanded immediate resignation of the general secretary from the post and wanted to move a resolution to this effect.

Knowing full well that the resolution will be passed by majority ,Behera ran away with resolution book  to avoid the embarrassing situation but on the other hand in a dramatic situation , being fed up with non-performance, Gauranga Prasad Nanda (deputy President) ,Bishwaranjan Mohanty (treasurer), Giitarani Barik (assistant secretary) resigned from their posts in support of the workers.
