A seminar on theme “Use of oxygen and propane in steel industry” was organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela local Centre here. In the beginning Prof SK Sahu welcomed members and guests. He gave the brief introduction on the theme.
Speaker Deputy General Manager, Oxygen Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant Ashish Ranjan speaking on the theme informed about the process of oxygen making and its use in steel melting shop, blast furnace, fabrication shop and plate mill etc. He also elaborated on various safety measures taken for the safety of oxygen pipe line.
He analyzed the cause of accident in the oxygen plant at Vizag Steel Plant with photographs taken at the site of the blast.
The talk also focussed on use of propane as alternative cleaner fuel which is economically viable and also easily available. The presentation was followed by a brief interactive discussion on the central theme. A good number of members and guests attended the function.
