Supporters of Talcher MlA Brajakishore Pradhan by closing down the lingaraj mines since December 24, brought the major coal producing mines of Talcher Coalfield to a grinding halt.

The supporters of Pradhan continued their demand for payment of compensation of worth Rs 20 lakh to an injured tipper driver, who has been recovering at AMRI Hospital, Bhubaneswar.

The MCl management had held a series of meeting with all the stakeholders without any fruitful conclusion. The PAP Cooperative Society which had employed the injured driver confirmed that all legitimate compensation will be provided to the injured in addition to the free medical treatment.

With all the major coal producing mines of Talcher Coalfield paralyzed, it is estimated that approximately 2 lakh tonne of coal will be lost per day.

This would result in loss of coal of value about Rs 18 crore and loss of about Rs 10 crore to the Central Government and loss of about Rs 4.3 crore revenue to the State Government per day.

It is feared that unless suitable remediable action is taken and entire Talcher Coalfield will be at the mercy of mob stoking an imminent energy crisis.
