The Swargadwar in Puri town is all set to get a major facelift as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday sanctioned Rs 5 crore for its development in the first phase.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Patnaik at the Lok Seva Bhawan here. The amount would be spent from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund while the Phoenix Foundation would undertake the development work of Swargadwar, a release of the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Under the project, modern facilities would be made available for cremation and pallbearers at the Swargadwar, which was ravaged by Cyclone FANI this year. Besides, facilitation of the cremation process during all seasons would be ensured.

Construction of restrooms for pallbearers, afforestation, facilities for collection and conservation of mortal remains would be parts of the project.

The Chief Minister directed to complete the work within six months.
